Integer Consulting is a small, independent consultancy, working at the interface of planning with urban regeneration, transport, economic development, environmental and management issues. Since its inception, Integer Consulting has advised clients across the local government, universities, transport, community and development industry sectors.
Richard Arkell established the practice in 1999, drawing on an extensive career in planning, regeneration, environment, transport and project development, at a senior management level within local government and in consultancy. Richard graduated from Newcastle University in 1971 and has been a Chartered Town Planner since 1973.
Integer Consulting aims to meet clients' requirements by delivering high quality consultancy cost effectively. Our capabilities are focused on the provision of strategic and site-specific technical advice relating to:

Over the last ten years, we have worked on some of the most challenging and imaginative regeneration projects in the North of England, for example in the East Durham Coalfield, in Sunderland and in Newcastle upon Tyne. These include the extension of the Tyne and Wear Metro system, ‘Connecting the Coalfield’, the regeneration of the former Vaux Brewery site in Sunderland City Centre and Scotswood EXPO in Newcastle.
Integer Consulting has been providing strategic planning advice to Sunderland arc since the genesis of the city’s urban regeneration company in 2002.
Integer Consulting has also undertaken highly effective, research-based commissions, focusing on economic, social, environmental and spatial planning issues, for example in connection with the EU’s EQUAL, URBAN II and INTERREG III Programmes.
